Why use a system generated private name v's a username?

Why does Bunchrides use a system generated name?

When riders upload their data to a ride, we need to display the riders full name or a private name for the results page. Displaying a username (pseudonym) in the results pages would make it difficult to easily determine who was on the ride or for your friends and team members to find and follow you.

A riders full name or private name is what identifies a rider across the site, i.e. Their profile, teams and bunch rides and even the blog.

By selecting "Private" under Settings/Privacy/who-can-see-my-profile, it will be impossible for members of the public or other riders to find you unless they know your system generated name.

We suggest the easier way at the moment is to email your profiles URL to your friends and potential team members: http://bunchrides.com/Profile/Private-ABCDEF
